IFSA-EUSFLAT 2009 will be held in Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon, Portugal, one of the most vibrant cities in Europe with a wealth of cultural and tourist attractions.

Since the introduction of fuzzy sets by Professor Lotfi Zadeh in 1965, the world has witnessed tremendous progress in theories and applications of fuzzy systems. A very large number of researchers and practitioners from all over the world have contributed to the advancement of this field. Further, there have been fruitful interactions between fuzzy set researchers and those of other areas of soft computing and computational intelligence, such as neural networks, evolutionary algorithms, and other emergent technologies, such as swarm optimization.

One of the most important organizations contributing to this tremendous progress in fuzzy logic and related areas has been, without doubt, the International Fuzzy Systems Association (IFSA) and the European Society for Fuzzy Logic and Technology (EUSFLAT). A very important factor in the development of fuzzy systems has been the IFSA World Congress and the EUSFLAT Conference, which are organized individualy every two years to bring together the best of the fuzzy logic community from all over the world, where researchers and students can share ideas and learn the last developments in the fuzzy area. This year both societies joined to organize this big event IFSA/EUSFLAT 2009 hoping to contribute positively to the growing area of fuzzy logic.

In addition to regular oral and poster presentations, the conference will include a full programme of tutorial, specialist workshops and panel sessions together with keynote talks.
